Design Inspiration March 2017: TRANSFORMATION OF A POWDER ROOM

Interior Design Inspiration

People ask us how we were inspired, when they see a completed project we’ve done. Inspiration may begin with clients’ comments, their favorite colors or a piece of art, but it always begins with a simple thought. That thought takes shape with the first selection of tile, fabric or wood finish. Our design inspiration grows from there like a seedling does with water and sunshine. We never underestimate the power of brainstorming at Designs of the Interior!

This powder room in a new construction project is simple but dramatic. Our clients love a neutral color palette, warm wood tones with interesting grain texture, and have a love of art and contemporary design and were building on a lakefront property. With that knowledge, we began. A walk through the tile and stone store is like a trip to the candy store for us, where we wait for inspiration to strike—voila, we found the wavelike pattern of the back splash granite.

The wall opposite the doorway needed to be special as well. We settled on textural, stacked travertine to compliment but not fight with the back splash. The team added a travertine floor and quartz countertop to the design. With plenty of stone in the space, we wanted the remaining elements to be warm and contrasting,: the glass pedestal sink, the warm wood face of the floating vanity and the subtle sconces with linen half-circle shades . Our careful planning and design inspiration made this small space interesting and impactful, to our clients’ delight!
