Design Inspiration: Beige? Beige!
Form and function go hand in hand when an interior designer is careful with her design selections. When we achieve that glorious balance, we do a little happy dance because we know that perfect place is only achieved with creativity and careful choices.
50 SHADES OF BEIGE
We found the perfect solution for recent clients who asked us to furnish their contemporary home in Malibu, situated on the oceanfront. Our clients wanted to have a beautiful, contemporary coastal design without having to worry about sand, water or stains from frequent entertaining. During our initial conversations with them, we also learned that they liked all shades of white and beige best.
As we began our design process, we turned toward outdoor fabrics for our upholstery covers because they wear very well, can be wiped with water, and liquids actually bead up on them.
With our color palette of “50 Shades of Beige”, texture and durability were especially important.
The best part of this story is the kind of outdoor fabric we chose, as there is a wide spectrum in terms of how it feels and looks. No offense to Sunbrella fabrics, but we settled on Perennials outdoor fabric for our upholstery. It’s simply luxurious and beautiful — which led to our little happy dance, because we knew it was perfect and form and function were achieved!
The Interior Design Result
The rest of our design included finishes of driftwood, but not rustic. Our custom iron and glass coffee tables and sofa table were perfectly sized and finished. Perhaps the crowning touch was our dining table, made from a slice of parota wood with a live edge, 12’ long.
