Design Inspiration April 2017—2017 Color of the Year
The Pantone color of the year is kind of a big thing! Its selection impacts color trends for fabric, carpet, paint, plastic, wallpaper and more, so its impact is pervasive! Yet it all started as an ingenious color coding system that was developed in the 1950’s as a way to ensure consistent colors in the printing industry. Today, the team of experts who select the color of the year are influenced by politics, pop culture, sports, technology and social issues.
The 2017 color of the year is PANTONE 15-0343 Greenery. Pantone, Inc. announced “…the color is meant to be life affirming and speaks to our desire to express, experiment and reinvent. It’s to give us the self-assurance to live life on our own terms, redefining what makes us successful and happy.”
PANTONE 15-0343 Greenery…
A life-affirming shade, is also emblematic of the pursuit of personal passions and vitality.
It’s fascinating to us as designers that color can reflect the tone of culture the way it does. We are also always mindful that color has psychological impact as well, and is one of the tools we use to create the mood we’re looking for in a room. We know that green, for example, is in the center of the color spectrum and strikes the eye in such a way as to require no adjustment whatsoever, which makes it the color of balance and restfulness.
